Training & Abilities

As a strong, high energy, intelligent breed the Entlebucher does best with an active, athletic owner with good dog sense and experience. While exceptionally easy to train, without proper stimulation and direction the Entlebucher can easily become a mischief maker while looking for their own way to please their master.

Dubbed the Swiss Army Knife of the Canine World by AKC Columnist Mara Bovsun, the Entlebucher is a versatile exciting partner in all Canine Sports. As member of the Herding Group of the American Kennel Club, they are eligible to participate in Conformation events in that Group. Entlebuchers also participate in Agility, Obedience, Rally-Obedience, Herding, and Tracking. They also excel at FreeStyle, Drafting, Herding, Dock Jumping and FlyBall.

Entlebuchers enthusiastically start each day with the question, “What are WE doing today?” Be it painting the shed, the excitement of an Agility Match, a long hike, or the comfort of a good book; as long as they are by their master’s side, the answer is, “Perfect!! That is exactly what I wanted to do!”
