Puppies are the pinnacle experience in a breeder’s life.
They are the peaceful glow at the end of a long path of patient and impatient waiting, health screens, progesterone tests, breeding trips, puppy buyer interviews, worrying, waiting, and breath holding, and almost missing the sight of your first beautiful pup as it slips into your hands because your eyes are so full of grateful tears.
I know of no sweeter time than sitting by the whelping box when you have just put the final clean blanket under mama and her babies – and watching her nuzzle and nurse a new litter.
She is spent, you are spent, the babies are perfect, and such a quiet peaceful joy abounds. Absolutely nothing is better!!
I whelp my bitches in our bedroom, and they live there with their puppies for four weeks. I like to be able to peek at them all during the night, and I LOVE their little puppy sounds.
At four weeks they are able to escape the whelping box, and we move the puppies into our family-room in a large pen.
By eight weeks our puppies have been held by tons of people, have been to visit the Pre-school, been crate trained, are mostly potty trained, know how to sit for treats, had temperament testing, come when they are called, have visited with a kitty, gotten microchip and shots, and been loved almost to death!!!
At eight weeks they can hardly wait to have their ‘own’ family to love, and that is the ‘only’ thing that makes it a little easier for me to let them go.
I hope that this information, as well as the rest of the site, will bring up any other question that you might have. It is very important to Barry and me that you are prepared to have a busy, happy, Entle pup as part of your family!!
We register all our puppies with the American Kennel Club.
We have included both puppy and adult pictures of some of our pups in the gallery. We hope you enjoy them.
